World Cup 2022: Ghana stuns South Korea in the final upset of the tournament

Ghana earned a huge 3-2 victory against South Korea in World Cup Group H on Monday when they fended off a huge second-half comeback from their opponents.

Mohammed Kudus seemed to be the difference maker. Kudus gave Ghana the lead in the 68th minute of the match after South Korea put two quick goals on the scoreboard to tie the game.

Kudus corralled the ball in the box and was in the right place at the right time to put the go-ahead score past South Korean keeper Kim Seung-Gyu. It was the second goal of the match for Kudus.

Ghana started the scoring in the 24th minute with a Mohammed Salisu score. He put Ghana ahead 1-0. And 10 minutes later, Kudus would score to give the Black Stars a 2-0 lead before halftime.

South Korea needed something to hold onto for hope, and they got it on 58 minutes.

Cho Gue-Sung finished off with a header to recover the first goal. He would score again three minutes later with another header to tie the game.

However, Ghana couldn’t stay off the board for long and took the lead through Kudus’s second goal.

Lawrence Ati Zigi would keep South Korea out of the net in the last 10 minutes of stoppage time.

Ghana faced elimination with a loss to South Korea, but came out on top. According to the FIFA rankings before the tournament, Ghana was ranked 61st and South Korea was ranked 28th.

Ghana picks up three points with the win and moves behind Portugal in the standings. Portugal defeated Ghana in the opening match. Uruguay will have a chance to move up the standings if they beat Portugal. However, Portugal can take a commanding lead with a win over Uruguay.
