A women’s hockey game between Romania and Bulgaria on Sunday in the Division III Women’s World Hockey Championship Group A turned into a brawl.
The teams played for fourth place.
Romania were already well ahead in the matchup and were on the verge of securing victory with a 10-2 win. The Bulgarian players had already received two game fouls and a fighting penalty. Then things took a more violent turn after the third period.

The Romanian and Bulgarian players became entangled near a net, and just as the final horn was about to sound, all hell broke loose. The players left their benches and began to fight. The Romanian goalkeeper ran across the ice to help her teammates.

According to Hockey Worldwide, a total of 554 penalty minutes were handed down to the two teams.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) tournament was held from April 3 to 9. Romania and Bulgaria were joined in the group by Hong Kong, Ukraine, Lithuania and Estonia. Romania finished fourth and Bulgaria fifth in the standings.
Hong Kong finished in first place.

Romanian Ana Voicu finished with five goals. Bulgaria got goals from Simona Asparuhova and Maria Runevska.
