The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without their defensive anchor Tuesday when they take on the los angeles lakers in the NBA play-in game, with the winner clinching the seventh seed in the Western Conference.

Rudy Gobert, the three times defensive player of the yearwas suspended for one game by the organization Monday after hitting teammate Kyle Anderson in the chest during Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Minnesota president of basketball operations Tim Connelly explained the decision of suspend Gobertosaying the organization wants to stick to «elite standards.»

«We have standards that we must uphold, and we saw what happened, and it was shameful,» Connelly said Tuesday, according to the star tribune. «It’s not about who we are as an organization, who Rudy is as a professional. Those guys quickly made amends, but we’re trying to be an elite organization and trying to meet elite standards.»

Anderson echoed Connelly’s statement regarding the two making amends, saying the teammates had put the incident behind them.

«We definitely fixed it,» Anderson was quoted as saying by the Star Tribune. «That happens all the time in sports. I feel like people act like they’ve never seen it before. We’re grown men. We can put it behind us. We both want to win. We talked about it that night, and just watching it all play out is a bit pathetic, honestly.»

«We’re teammates at the end of the day. I don’t want it to be a Kyle vs. Rudy thing. That’s never the case. I always looked out for my teammates and we just kept going.»

Goberto was sent Sunday party home, and the center publicly apologized.

«Emotions got the best of me today,» Gobert posted on Twitter. «I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did, regardless of what was said. I want to apologize to the fans, the organization (sic) and particularly Kyle, who is someone I truly love and respect as a teammate.»

Minnesota is also without forward Jaden McDaniels against the Lakers, who suffered a broken shooting hand after hitting a wall on his way to the locker room Sunday.

Gobert will be able to return for Minnesota’s next game, either in the playoffs against the memphis grizzlies or in a win-or-go-home game against the winner of No. 9-No. 10 matchups in the play-in game.
