Nordic police thriller border town (also know as Sorjonen) now shows a takedown notice on Netflix worldwide.

Originating in Finland, the show was created and directed by Miikko Oikkonen, with Ville Virtanen as the lead actor over 3 seasons and 31 episodes.

The show followed a talented detective who takes a job in a small town with the initial goal of spending more time with his family. Little did he know that he would soon find himself embroiled in a web of disturbing murder cases.

The show first aired in Finland on Yle TV1 in late 2016 before launching on Netflix globally on March 31, 2017. Season 2 then arrived on Netflix in 2019, with the final season arriving on May 11. of 2020.

The series has received rave reviews from the beginning with Ultimate decider, giving it solid reviews. throughout his life, initially concluding with:

“Bordertown is a melancholic and predictable murder drama, but sometimes that’s what you want to see. If you’re looking for a new crime drama that’s a step above NCIS but allows you to tune out, this foreign language drama is a good choice.»

Now, exactly three years after the last season landed, it will expire.

A notice on the Netflix page for border town it says its «Last Day to Watch on Netflix» is May 9 and the actual removal date is May 10, 2023.

The removal date is displayed on the Bordertown Netflix page.

After the third and final season, a movie released on Netflix also on December 1, 2021, under the name of Bordertown: Mural Murders. That will stay on Netflix for a while longer, with sources indicating it won’t be out until 2028.


Because it is border town leaving Netflix?

As we’ve covered before, Netflix Originals can often just mean Netflix exclusives and that’s the case here. Netflix acquired the international broadcast rights for the show exclusively for a fixed period of time and now that time is up.

We’ve seen dozens of Netflix Originals come out in recent years with many more planned for the future.

Netflix could decide to raise the rights again (they have done it with arrested development and lilyhammer) but we don’t expect the same to be done here.
