Netflix Limited Series 'All the Light We Can't See': Everything We Know So Far

netflix pairs Strange things producer Shawn Levy and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight for a 4-episode limited drama series. The duo is working on an adaptation of the World War II novel. All the light we can’t see which comes from author Anthony Doerr. Here’s everything we know about the series coming to Netflix in November 2023.

Knight has taken over writing duties for the limited series, while Levy will direct all four episodes.

The project has been in development at Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment for a couple of years and was first announced in 2019. Levy notably works with Netflix under a comprehensive umbrella agreement.

Steven Knight, Josh Barry, Shawn Levy and Dan Levine serve as executive producers on the project.

As mentioned above, Netflix All the light we can’t see is an adaptation of Anthony Doerr’s 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning and bestselling novel of the same name.

Marie-Laure lives in Paris near the Natural History Museum, where her father works. When she is twelve years old, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what could be the most valuable and dangerous jewel in the museum.

In a German mining town, Werner Pfennig, an orphan, grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find that brings them news and stories from places they have never seen or imagined. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new tools, and is enlisted to use his talents to track the resistance. Deftly weaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner together, Doerr illuminates the ways in which, against all odds, people try to be good to each other.

who is cast in All the light we can’t see?

Netflix announced a major search for its main cast member in September 2021 with the requirements that they have to be blind or with low vision. They would play Marie-Laure. After two months, it was announced that the search was over.

In December 2021, it was announced that Aria Mia Loberti would be the lead in the new series. This will be the debut title of the actress.

He celebrated the news by posting on Instagram. with the following:

“I am delighted to finally share that I will be playing Marie-Laure Leblanc in the Netflix adaptation of All The Light We Cannot See. If you’re unfamiliar with the extraordinary Pulitzer-winning book, All The Light follows Marie as she grows up in Nazi-occupied France. It is an intricately crafted story of hope, forgiveness, power, and resilience, and it is very special to me.

Never in a million years did I think something like this would happen to me. The creative team spearheading this project is the stuff dreams are made of. I am enormously lucky. More fortunate, humble and grateful than I can express. Thank you for your trust and faith.

I am sensitive to the scope of this responsibility and what this character means to blind and disabled people, particularly blind girls. A blind protagonist played by a blind actor. This is a significant advance for disability inclusion, rights and representation on screen and beyond. Aria will play the role of Marie-Laure Leblanc, who is described as thoughtful, curious and intelligent. She communicates using her radio to talk to people in the outside world during the Nazi occupation of France in World War II.

Then, in January 2022, two more mainline castings were announced with the inclusion of brand ruffalo and Hugh Laurie join the cast.

Ruffalo (known for playing the Hulk in the MCU) will play Daniel Leblanc, a locksmith at the Natural History Museum and father of Marie-Laure. He is determined, despite his occupation, to give his daughter the best possible education.

Laurie (better known as MD house) will play Etienne Leblanc, a wounded veteran suffering from PTSD. He serves as Daniel’s uncle and Marie-Laure’s great-uncle.

Netflix also launches louis hofmann a young man who will play Werner Pfennig. He is a specialist in the detection of radio frequencies, which leads him to Marie-Laure. Hofmann is best known for playing Jonas Kahnwald on the hit German Netflix series, Dark.

Pascual Ulli is set to play Dr. Heinrich in the series. He is known for playing Reinhard Küng on Netflix. Clandestine series.

lars eidinger You have been cast as Master Sergeant Reinhold von Rumpel, described as a terminally ill Nazi officer who spends his final days ruthlessly pursuing a precious and legendary diamond.

Nell Sutton will play the young Marie-Laure, the younger version of the blind girl, played by Loberti.

What is the production status of All the light we can’t see?

Starting in October 2021, the Netflix limited series All the light we can’t ver is in its writing process. Filming was scheduled to begin in Europe in the first quarter of 2022 according to issue #1265 of weekly production and we can now confirm that filming for the four-episode limited series will begin on March 14, 2022 and run through July 22, 2022.

The series will be filmed primarily in Berlin, but additional reports suggest that All the light we can’t see also going to film extensively in Hungary.
