If you have launched your Netflix app on your Smart TV or similar device in the last few days, you may notice some minor changes. Some new sounds and some new animations will be coming to you in the app to reflect the previous changes on iOS devices.

Behind the scenes, Netflix is constantly tinkering and hard at work with its apps across a range of devices. At the beginning of the year, we learned that Netflix was updating its applications in iOS devices with a new «fluid layout» and updated animation effects.

According to a Netflix spokesperson to TechCrunch, here’s what the new changes include:

“We recently updated the Netflix iOS app with better visuals, more responsive interactions, and motion design. This latest global update includes features like a new look to promote what to watch, themed backgrounds for your favorite shows and movies, new profile animations, and more.

Well, these iOS changes have slowly made their way to other devices now, including smart TVs.

Beyond the new profile intro animation (see embedded below) (removing the old spinner and zooming in on your profile), you’ll hear a new boot up sound that’s more like a «swoosh» than the traditional sound of Tudum. we have been used to. In fact, we’ve been hearing a variation of this new sound in the trailers that Netflix uploads for their mobile games.

Beyond that, things are a bit snappier and more responsive, with most of the new animations acting as transitions between titles and pages. The main effect most will notice is that most UI elements now zoom in or out instead of the old fade and load screens.

How to turn off Netflix’s new animation effects on your TV

Fortunately, if you find the new animation effects annoying, you can «turn them down», but you can’t turn them off completely.

in a new entry in Netflix help center, they provide some detailed instructions on exactly how you can reduce the effects, but remember; You will need to do this per profile within the account.

According to the help article:

  1. In a web browser, go to your Netflix account page.
  2. In the Profile & Parental Controls section, select a profile.
  3. Check Reduce animation effects when browsing on TV.

They also note that «animation effects are enabled by default and are not available on some TV devices.»
