Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon were handed technical fouls in the second quarter of their Game 4 matchup of the Western Conference Finals on Monday night.

James was trying to get into lane when Gordon hit him in the face. As he tried to post Gordon, he tried to get under Gordon’s arm. Gordon squeezed James’s arm in place of his and didn’t let go, causing a brief ruckus. James then put his left forearm on Gordon’s throat.

The two would dance to the touchline before teammates from the Lakers and Nuggets broke the monotony.

NBA officials assessed the players as a double technical. No free throws were called, but another technical foul for either player would result in ejection. Hardball basketball and the chippyness that comes with it are usually seen when the stakes are high.

With 4:01 remaining in the first half, James had 29 points. The Lakers are about to be swept by the Nuggets, who are the best team in the Western Conference.

Denver has a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. If the Lakers hold, they’ll force Game 5 in Denver.
