After the success of the drug traffickers franchise, Netflix dives headlong into another biographical series about the drug empire led by Griselda Blanco with Sofía Vergara. The new limited series has finished production and is coming to Netflix in late 2023. Here’s what you need to know about griselda.
entertainment news first emerged in November 2021with Illuminerdi first reporting that a drug traffickers spin-off was in development with the same team. Days later, we also reported that the show was in development, and just a day later, Netflix officially unveiled the title, but wanted to emphasize that «there is no association or crossover between the shows.»
It’s taken a long time to griselda to come to our screens. According to Netflix’s initial PR pitch, it took Latin World Entertainment eight years for the series to be picked up by a network.

Who’s behind griselda on netflix?
Ingrid Escajeda is the showrunner, writer and executive producer of the project. Her previous credits include working on Empire as co-executive producer, Justified, sneaky peteand better ted.
Luis Balaguer, Doug Miro, Andrés Baiz, Carlo Bernard are also executive producers.

Andrés Baiz, who directed episodes 7 and 8 of Netflix The Sandmanwill direct all six episodes of griselda. His other credits include directing episodes on both drug traffickers and Narcos: Mexico more 2013 roa and 2011 the hidden face.

Grand Electric’s Eric Newman (who works with Netflix on a host of projects under their umbrella deal) is working on the show as an executive producer in a non-writing role.

Sofia is brilliantly talented and her passion, combined with a fantastic story from Doug and Ingrid, and the amazing Andrés Baiz at the helm, means we have a very exciting series to share with audiences.”
Latin World Entertainment (founded by Luis Balaguer and Sofia Vergara) and Grand Electric are the two companies that produce the show for Netflix.
What is griselda about? Who is the queen of drugs Griselda?
Griselda Blanco is among the The most notorious drug lords in history. Her name often appears on lists comparing her to the likes of Pablo Escobar, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, Al Capone and El Chapo.

The Independent put together a excellent manual for the series tracing the reign of the drug queen throughout the ’70s, ’80s and up until her eventual demise in 2012.
It is not the first time that we have seen Griselda reach our screens. Catherine Zeta-Jones played the character in the TV movie. Godmother of cocaine: the story of Griselda Blanco back in 2018.

Billboard Reports that karol gthe Colombian singer, will debut as an actress in the griselda series. She will play the role of Carla described as one of Griselda’s mules.

How many episodes will there be?
The limited series will consist of six 50-minute episodes.
Where is griselda in production? Where is griselda filmed?
According to multiple production listings, filming began on January 24, 2022 and is scheduled to wrap up on June 30, 2022.
The show was filmed under the working title of «Emerald,» which can be viewed at various directors chairs throughout the production of the show.
The series is being filmed in two notable locations with part of the filming in Los Angeles, California, and the other parts being filmed in Miami, Florida. We’re told the production first began filming in Los Angeles in the week beginning January 24.
We are told that location scouts were spotted in early November 2021 looking for locations in Long Beach, CA.

Numerous people noticed that Netflix was taking over the old Ripples Club for filming in Long Beach. Some they even had hope that the restaurant was having something of a renaissance. Of course, it was only Netflix who temporarily transformed the building into “El Floridita”.
LBIZE claims that:
“Filming has been non-stop since February 22, when trailers, portable toilets, a number of classic cars based on the 1970s and 1980s timeline of history, and many power generators occupied the lot at the beach directly in front of the set of Floridita”.

filming finished griselda on July 2, 2022, according to the showrunner, who posted on instagram say that it was the last day of shooting, adding the hashtags Griselda, set life, and I can’t believe it’s over.
Vergara too posted to say filming wrapped with several images saying:
«It’s a wrap! 🎬 6 months with the most amazing group of people. Thanks to ALL of you! The entire cast and crew! It wouldn’t have been the same without all of you.»
