Former NBA guard JR Smith finally shares details about his infamous decision to throw soup at Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones in 2018.

During a recent appearance on «The Old Man and the Three» podcast with retired NBA player JJ Redick, Smith opened up about the incident and even recalled the specific type of soup he spewed.

Smith mentioned that although Jones is a «nice guy», he had a tendency to keep «playing» with those around him, even when someone wasn’t in the mood for jokes.

«Damon Jones is my guy,» Smith said, according to Sports Illustrated. «I love D-Jones, but he has the ability to play too much… And for me, if I tell you I’m not in the mood right now… I had some stuff at home. I wasn’t playing well. I’m like, ‘ Not right now'».

Smith added that Jones began pestering him in the lunch area and that his decision to throw out the soup was well thought out.

«Indeed, I am in the dining room having my soup and [Jones] come in… Of course, the soup was hot. I’m like the first person there. He’s like, trying to make me spill it. I’m not going to lie, he took me a second because I really thought about it,» Smith noted.

«It wasn’t like an angry pitch. It was like, ‘Okay, you’re playing me. I know you’re playing me. I’ll show you.’ And I threw it at him. And he was there yelling because that’s sexy. I was like, ‘ See, do you want to stop playing with me now? Do you want to stop playing with me?'»
