Arrive at the base during a Division I college baseball game It is not an easy task.
And Florida Gulf Coast outfielder Brian Ellis has now done it in 102 straight games.
In the bottom of the first inning Tuesday against Florida Atlantic, Ellis drew a five-pitch walk, setting up a unofficial NCAA record reaching base safely for the 102nd straight game.

While the NCAA doesn’t track consecutive games reaching base safely, it does track hitting streaks, walks and hits-by-pitch, Ellis passed Mark Payton of the University of Texaswhich set the previous record in 2013-14, according to FGCU athletics.
After reaching base in the first inning, Ellis lifted the base over his head and the bag was out of play.
«It’s a great feeling to have any record here, and to have that as national record it’s a great accomplishment that I’m happy about,» Ellis said, according to FGCU Athletics.

Ellis is a redshirt senior who is hitting .299 on the season with a .477 on-base percentage.
«He is a special player, very selfless.» FGCU baseball coach Dave Tollett said. «This record shows how selfless he is, and it’s very special. He’s a great guy, one of the best guys I’ve ever coached and the only captain I’ve had in 37 years. He’s well deserved.»

While it was a record day for Ellis, the Eagles ended the day with their second straight loss to FAUfalling to the Owls 5-4.
