Chase Koepka’s hole-in-one sends LIV Golf fans into a beer frenzy in Adelaide

When Chase Koepka, brother of tournament grand winner Brooks Koepka, hit his ace at the LIV Golf tournament in Adelaide, Australia on Saturday, there was complete chaos on the tee box.

Consider the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale during the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The crowd, and fans watching from home, knew Koepka loved his tee shot as he stared at it on the par-3 12th hole, which was nicknamed “The Watering Hole.” Many patrons would grab some refreshing drinks and post there to see if anyone can get close to the rare hole in one.

The same thing happens during the Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, when fans rush to the 16th green to get a spot in the stands where cheering is encouraged as golfers are about to hit their ball, which is obviously not normal in anywhere else in the game.

Koepka hoped to turn those cheers into roars at The Grange Golf Club with his ball hitting the 12th green firmly before launching straight for the hole. The ball slowly made its way up the flagpole and the anticipation was at its peak with everyone holding their breath, waiting to see if it would drop.

Once he did, the scene was wild.

Koepka nailed his 9-iron off the tee, and if a fan had a drink in hand, it was probably thrown in Koepka’s direction.

Glasses and bottles sprayed Koepka and his caddy, who celebrated for a while with the crowd doing exactly the same. Even Ian Poulter and Paul Casey, who were in Koepka’s group, also started celebrating with him.

“I smelled like beer the whole rest of the day,” Koepka told Golf Digest of his round. “Yeah, it was wild. Crazy experience. I mean, obviously doing it on a hole like that was super special.”

The turnout at LIV Golf Adelaide has been one of the best to date, with one of the faces of the Saudi-backed tour, Phil Mickelson, loving every second.

“Yes, this really is an example of what is possible and a new opportunity to present golf in a different way and have a different energy and a different feel,” he said, via the Daily Mail.

“I’m not saying it has to happen every week, but what LIV Golf has delivered is really a great alternative to traditional forms of golf and people here in Australia have embraced it.”

The fans in Australia showed love for Koepka throughout the rest of his round, as he saw a standing ovation on every hole after 12.
